Halley’s Comet The Source of the May 2019 Meteor Shower

So soon after watching the ‘superwolf blood moon‘ on the 21st January you may think that it’s not possible for the sky to give us anything else so magnificent to view so soon.  Not true!  The sky is a magnificent theatre, except that for the majority of people they never truly get to see such splendour due to light pollution.  Light pollution is an international issue, so prevalent is artificial light in our lives that  many young children are currently growing up without ever seeing the sky in it’s birthday suite.  If you would like to see how your area fares regarding light pollution you can click this link here

The Eta Aquariid meteor shower has a direct link to Halley’s Comet because annually the earth crosses the orbital path of the famous planet which allows us the see the most spectacular meteor shower for around 3 nights beginning around May 5 / 6.  This is the first of two Halley’s Comet inspired meteor showers with the second one being visible around October 21st.  What is so special about the May meteor shower is that there will be a new moon on this date which guarantees very dark skies.

Here at Somewhere Over the Olive Tree we are positioned in a perfect place to see the night skies.  The only street lighting visible from Dolly the Vintage Caravan are the lights that illuminate the Embalse de Forata

a short distance away.  I suppose when you live with the ability to see the night skies on a day by day basis it is easy to forget that not everyone in the world has this possibility right on their own doorstep.  I think this awareness that I was actually taking for granted the beauty that surrounds me here in the mountains of Valencia arose when I had a lovely family from Berlin in  Germany who came to stay at Dolly.  In fact they were my first ever guests!  They were so  amazed by our night skies because in Berlin I suppose looking at the map in the link above it is clear to see that light pollution there is quite prolific.  So inspired by the clear view of the night skies they took a series of photos from Dolly the Vintage Caravan and sent them to me so that I may share them with everyone who takes an interest.  I am truly grateful for such a small thing.  My photography skills are not that good and I don’t own a very good camera.  By viewing the night skies through the eyes of another person I took a moment to actually stop and appreciate what was right under my very nose on a daily basis.  When I actually stopped for a moment to look up and focus on the sky I took such an inward breath because this is my view night after night.  Take a look for yourself

By May we will also have a private  outdoor water bar style Jacuzzi – what’s that you ask?  Another post is my answer.

Prolific second hand shopper, rubbish rumager and upcycler, that sees beauty where non exists. From Dolly the Vintage Caravan to Dream Catchers I find inspiration and creativity where it is practically non existent to most people's eyes. My creativity comes from an intention of reducing waste and helping the planet by reusing things people throw away. I have refurbished my whole home from 'rubbish' to demonstrate what can actually be achieved with a little imagination, patience and maybe a glass or two of whiskey. I also adore the simple things in life like looking at the mountains, playing with my dogs, cooking, sewing and dancing. You can find out more on SOMEWHERE OVER THE OLIVE TREE on Facebook
